A certified instructor of Boryviter military school held the course “Military Topography” at Complex Training Centre for special operations personnel and service members of the 68th Battalion of the 101st Territorial Defence Brigade.
Trainees learned to read and understand combat graphic documents, and also:
- perform terrain reconnaissance and understand its properties that can be used during combat;
- develop a movement route;
- orient themselves on terrain under any conditions (night, fog, with/without gadgets, maps, and so on);
- determine distance, linear dimensions, and direction to targets under different conditions and by different methods;
- make fast and correct target designation and adjustment by coordinates and be able to work with the main coordinate systems, different angular measures, different units of measuring distances, areas, and so on;
- understand the principles of transmitting topographic data;
- know the main online and offline applications for obtaining topographic information (navigators, navigation programs);
- work effectively with the Kropyva situational awareness system and optical devices.
The training program includes mastering theoretical knowledge of military topography, active work with maps throughout the entire course, and practical exercises at the training range.
